somehow, i did not win the contest for mod librarian, but i love what i'm wearing.
found in new orleans, this electric orange skirt suit is 55% hemp and 45% cotton. it's got a macrame edge and fits perfectly. the labels inside show it to be from Godchaux's, which was a New Orleans institution. the designer is Ketty, and it was made in italy. the shoes are j.crew but the blouse is also vintage, found in seattle. the brooch belonged to my aunt, who got it from her mother.
sidenote: the Cloak and Dagger dress kyra is wearing was mine, but i'm giving it to her, since it fits her better. tights are mine too. i love colored tights -- always make me think of egon schiele.
sidenote 2: actually, dave is wearing a keith haring tie i gave him. keith haring really had no compunction about licensing, it would seem. there's a lot of merch out there bearing his images.

here are three images that have gone up on shua's tumblr. he's flying to NYC tomorrow, so we won't be collab-ing on monday, but he'll get to be in the big city for FASHION WEEK. envious! hope he takes a lot of pictures!

sometimes i remind 'shua to take a photo first, just in case i can't hold the pose for a long time. this way, he also has something to which he can refer for details, or in need of a complete do-over. you know, posterity.
palmistry and face paint
the glitterguts dance punk circus was awesome. i'm super-proud of eric and sarah for organizing all the performances and vendors, especially at such a major venue. everyone came out in clown-goth-weirdo regalia and spirits were high. once again, remote viewer project scored excellent real estate, and money was made. (vintage clothes make more money, but you have the expense of having paid for the clothes at some point, whereas requesting donations for a service has virtually no overhead. cheiromancy is as much a performance as anything intuitive.)

kyra and cassandra painted faces, also asking only a donation. there may have been a pro bono aspect to their labors, but the kids were lining up. i heard requests for "sith lord" and "david bowie," as well as "tiger." dave, below, got done up with clown brows. 'shua came along for the ride, sketching anyone who sat down for two minutes. to create an ambience, i brought along tord boontje lamps, tinsel, and an estrella i found in mexico.

these are a few pictures from the crazy slew up on glitterguts website. if you go there, you can see all the burlesque clowns, punk tacos, and riverboat bandleaders. for some reason, half the bodies in attendance wore rabbit ears.

besides from looking really COOL, it turns out i'm pretty decent at palmistry. patrons gave me high-fives, hugged me, and told me previous chirologists had given them the same readings. it's a really strange feeling to tell a complete stranger about themselves, based only on the lines in their left and right hands. it was useful to look at the left hand (the subconscious) first, and then compare that to the right hand (the conscious). despite everything that symmetry intends for the human body, the formations are really different, and you can use that to account for some of the disparity between emotion and action. it is something that i definitely want to study more -- i felt myself getting better at it over the evening, even going so far as to give Advice. whoa.
i'm sort of hoping that lab rat doesn't book any major events for march, because there are other projects to which i'd like to devote my energy. at the same time, it's unlikely that i'd accomplish anything as engaging without the fire he sets under me. it's a major privilege to be one of his buddies -- and be able to share the opportunity with my own posse.

dress rehearsal
today, 'Shua and i had only a few hours for fashism. we spent some of that time eating a delicious salad he made, (aguacate!) and baked sweet potato fries. our next watercolor session will be monday. in the meantime, maybe he will reveal some of his finished works on his blog.

dance punk circus
eric's been at it again.. not that he ever stops being at it. that dude is busy. i could not do what he does, not without an adderall drip. which sounds terrifying. this saturday is the:
just thinking about it has stressed me out more than it should. lab rat suggested i actually do prognosticating (palmistry, tea leaf reading, graphology) so i will be getting into full regalia and calling on Intuition. selling vintage clothes and paperbacks would be fun, but requires so much more set-up and attention. on the other hand (pun?) do midwesterners go in for fortune-telling? i have never paid to get my palm read, and the only tarot reader i've had was my friend amanda. probably a skill i should add to my arsenal, but then what about mastering the crystal ball, too?
