don't you just know it -- swing night again!
back from chicago, i went to mimi's, and i brought ilana and rebecca with me. it was rebecca's big 2-5!
ilana's bright garters were my favorite part of her look. as for myself, to work i'd worn white moccasins and a white belt, but i decided to change my accessories for a less matchy-matchy look. anachronistic! the pink belt was lent to me by ilana -- it's 80s, and contrasts gorgeously against the green silk.
colin's elbow is blocking all the bills safety-pinned to rebecca's boob. i mean, camisole strap.
besides that darling guy in braces and a snap cap (you can't see his two-tone spectators) we've added another fashion-loving lass to the mix: frances! that black and white butterfly frock was made by frances' mom!
allow me to describe some of the great outfits i neglected to photograph:
one lady had high-cut, creamy, wide-leg trousers, which she wore with a tulip-sleeved, dove-gray, tailored blouse. tucked into her hair, which was braided to the side, was an array of pale silk flowers. (turns out she was british.)
birdie wore a red floral dress with thin straps and a circle skirt.
chance's hat was a brown, roll-brim derby, and at the beginning of the night, his white shirt was very crisp.
meschiya wore all black, a short-sleeved blouse and a pencil skirt that ended 6 inches above her knee, the better to display her angel- and devil-mermaid calf tattoos.
charlie - as ever - wore Cons, cuffed jeans, and a straw porkpie. adorable.
i really must admit that some real opportunities were missed; last night was the end of fleur de lindy, a fabulous swing dance expo that went on during French Quarter Fest. since i was working all weekend and generally avoiding the tourists, i did not attend any of the events. i profess to not have known. this totally sweet occasion brought in dancers and enthusiasts from all over the world, and i didn't do anything over the weekend but read Never Let Me Go. real dumb.
